Humphrey Mabwi

Mr Mabwi Humphrey is a graduated PhD scholar at Sokoine University of Agriculture. He was working on Design of synthetic gut microbiota (GM) ecosystem model for screening potential prebiotics from phytochemical. The GM plays an important role in human health and is being investigated as a possible target for new therapies. Prebiotics such as phytochemical can improve health via GM modulation; however, phytochemicals-GM studies are scarce. Mabwi is therefore designing an in vitro GM ecosystem which can be used for rapid screening of phytochemicals beneficial to GM. This is important in developing novel GM therapeutics.

He obtained a BSc in Biology/Chemistry from the Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Kenya (2015) and an MSc in Molecular Biology & Biochemistry from the Northeast Normal University, China (2015). His career started by teaching Biology and Chemistry at secondary schools. After completing his MSc, Mr. Mabwi served as a teaching/research assistant in the Department of Biological Sciences at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Kenya.
