Natalie Mayet

Dr Natalie Mayet is the Deputy Director of the National Institute for Communicable Diseases and is currently serving as the Chairperson of the International Association of National Public Health-IANPHI Africa.

Dr Mayet qualified as a medical doctor from the University of Natal in 1983 and obtained further qualifications in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, Public Health, Health Services Management and Occupational Health.  She has been involved in Public Health for 35 years and is currently completing an MPhil at the Gordon Institute of Business Science.

Dr Mayet is responsible for the South African Field Epidemiology Training Programme within the National Institute for Communicable Disease and is facilitating the entrenchment of Field Epidemiology as a discipline within the Ministry of Health in South Africa.  She is member of the Africa CDC Task Force that has prepared the Framework for Workforce Development for Member States.

She is supporting the establishment of the National Public Health Institute for South Africa and is the Chairperson of the International Network of Public Health Institutes (IANPHI) for Africa.  She is member of the Advisory and Technical Council for Africa CDC for advancing Public Health Institute development.

She is passionate about improving surveillance systems and capacity and has been involved in the re-engineering the Notifiable Medical Condition Surveillance system for both the private and public sectors.
