Wilna Vosloo

Dr.  Wilna Vosloo is a Research Team Leader at the CSIRO Australian Animal Health Laboratory (AAHL), Geelong-Melbourne, responsible for the management of the Agent Detection Group within the Diagnostics, Surveillance and Response Theme. She manages 5 projects: diagnostic virology, diagnostic bacteriology, molecular diagnostics, sequencing and robotics. She is responsible for the FMD Risk Management Project. She also leads Australia’s involvement in the Global Foot and Mouth Research Alliance (GFRA) initiative.

Formerly, she was Head of the Transboundary Animal Diseases Division at the Onderstepoort Veterinary Institute, South Africa and Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Pretoria. Her research research in South Africa included “Molecular studies on a novel lipo-protein from Mycobacterium bovis BCG”. Her seminal work on the Phylogenetic relationships between foot-and-mouth disease virus isolates from southern Africa has been a point of reference for studying the epidemiology of the disease in the region.
